Restaurants, hotels, hospitals, schools, fast food operations, caterers, cafeterias, and many other businesses employ food service workers. This 1050- hour course teaches every phase of modern commercial food preparation and service, and gives students the knowledge of how to prepare and serve a multi-course meal for two or two-hundred.
Wages of cooks and chefs depend greatly on the part of the country and the type of establishment in which they are employed. Earnings depend upon the type and size of employer, geographic location, and employee’s experience and skill.
In Oklahoma, cooks/chefs are projected to have 1,140 job openings annually until the year 2006. These job openings represent new job growth and replacements caused by leaving the occupation, promotions, retirements, etc. In 1996, cooks/chefs held approximately 28,340 jobs in Oklahoma. They are expected to hold approximately 32,970 jobs by the year 2006. This is considered an average growth rate.
