Bismarck State College (Hospitality Management)

Hospitality service operations make up one of the largest and fastest growing labor force groups in North Dakota, the United States, and in many foreign countries.

As more and more Americans go outside their homes for several meals each week, job opportunities have increased in all types of hotels, motels, and restaurants from fast food chains to elegant dining establishments. The demand for institutional food service has also created openings in industrial operations, health care facilities, educational institutions, and commercial airlines.

In addition, participation in leisure time activities is on the rise, making career positions more readily available in such fields as travel, tourism, recreation, and hotel-restaurant management.

The challenging and ever-changing hospitality industry is in need of competent, well-educated personnel at all levels. This positive in opportunity growth is expected to continue well into the 21st century.

Present facilities include a food preparation lab, two seminar rooms, a front desk center, a food preparation lab and a dining room. The managerial training includes on-the job experience with local hospitality industry employers.

Bismarck State College prepares men and women for entry into the hospitality industry through a program offering several options. Those who plan to become managers in the industry are encouraged to take the two year Associate in Applied Science degree curriculum.

The eleven-month program certificate programs in Basic Hotel Management and Basic Restaurant Management provide job skills for entry-level employment in the industry. All credits earned during the eleven-month, first-year curriculum are applicable toward the Hospitality Management Associate in Applied Science degree.
