The Cypress College Hotel, Restaurant, Culinary Arts (HRC) program offers classroom instruction from industry professionals along with practical, hands on experience to ensure optimal skill enhancement. With various Certificates/Degrees programs available in Hotel Management, Restaurant and Food Service Management and Culinary Arts, HRC is a great choice for those new to the industry or seasoned veterans wanting to stay on top of current trends. With the addition of general education courses, our Associate of Science Degrees prepare students for entry-level management positions, as well as fulfill many academic transfer requirements to four-year institutions such as Cal Poly-Pomona, CSU-Long Beach and the Culinary Institute of America. HRC students benefit from theoretical studies combined with hands on experience with our internship partners and campus foodservice operations including the HRC Bistro, a full service student run fine dining restaurant.

Located near the Anaheim Resort District, industry partners such as Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, Marriott, Hyatt, Hilton, ESPN Zone and others actively seek and promote HRC students for all sorts of exciting positions. From entry-level to management positions, HRC can provide education, guidance, internship and job placement opportunities for those seeking careers in the exciting world of hospitality and culinary arts. Culinary Arts

From epicure to etiquettes, to gourmet cookery and garde manger, HRC’s Culinary Arts Program aims to provide the serious student the basic yet in-depth foundation to become a respected Culinarian.

Established in 1975, HRC’s Culinary Arts Program combines the experience of our award-winning faculty with our newly-built revolutionary facilities, and is designed to prepare our students successful entry into the culinary industry. Our graduates fulfill a range of job opportunities, including the positions of Cook, Line Cook, Banquet, Pantry, Sous and Executive Chef, Corporate Chef, Personal Chef, and Gourmet Market Chef.

Students learn by demonstration, instruction, and textbook studies, as well as on-the-job training through our Internship Program. At The Bistro and Café Cypress, the campus’ student-run public restaurants, our students design, prepare, and offer contemporary cuisine. Our students also cater college-sponsored functions, as well as certain local community events.

As well as meeting the standards of the American Culinary Federation, the Culinary Arts Program at Cypress College is only one of two schools in Orange County to offer the Culinary Arts Certificate, Apprentice Certificate and Associate in Science Degree curricula.

With a faculty that includes industry professionals, HRC’s Restaurant Program has teamed up with the Educational Foundation of the National Restaurant Association to offer the industry-sponsored Pro-Management Certificate Program as part of the curriculum. This alliance, committed to raising the level of professionalism of food service in the hospitality industry, merges both solid academic foundation and industry experience to provide our students the confidence and necessary skills for a career in management. Our Internship Program also provides our students quality on-the-job training as well as professional experience.

Graduates of the HRC’s Restaurant Program now fulfill management careers in Restaurant, Banquet, Catering Directorship, and other food and beverage establishments in schools, hospitals, cruise liners, parks or resorts. In the heart of Southern California’s hospitality hub, our local business partners include the Disney Resorts, Hyatt Hotels, and Wolfgang Puck’s to name a few.
