Genesee Community College (Hospitality Management)

Today there are more than 61,000 establishments in the United States providing overnight accommodations to suit many different interests and budgets. These establishments have an ongoing need for skilled, experienced personnel familiar with modern hospitality management methods and techniques.

Most careers in this industry evolve through on-the-job situations, and it can take considerable time to progress through a series of jobs. Genesee's Hospitality Management program is designed to speed up this process by helping students acquire skills and experience to secure a solid footing within the hospitality industry, or help current industry employees update their skills and upgrade their position.

You'll become acquainted with the concepts, principles, procedures, and vocabulary necessary to function well in hotel and restaurant businesses. Study topics include hotel operations, food and beverage management, and meeting and convention planning. In addition to specialized hospitality courses, you'll study accounting, professional sales, marketing, human relations, and public speaking. These courses provide an ideal foundation in business and management to operate effectively in a hospitality operation.

On-the-job learning, so essential in the hospitality business, is part of Genesee's program. Students receive academic credit for this experience, but even more important, they can apply what they have learned in class to the real business environment.
