Laurel Run Cooking School

Our mission statement at Laurel Run Cooking School is to educate, excite and entertain. We want our students to learn new skills and gain confidence in the kitchen, we want them to go home excited about cooking, and we want to them to have fun! We are proud of our informative classes that are conducted in a down-to-earth, friendly atmosphere.
Laurel Run opened for business in 1996 in the upstairs of a carriage house located behind our home on eleven acres in historic Brownhelm. In the beginning I had planned to teach one or two classes a month on herbs, their uses and how to cook with them. Early on students began asking for simple cooking classes and within 5 years the business grew beyond my expectations. I taught demonstration classes and, in the those first few years, taught hands-on cooking classes in my home kitchen. The popularity of those classes prompted me to involve my husband Dan, my father Harry Cogar, and son Brian to remodel the first floor of the carriage house into the cooking school it is today. We now teach an average of one hundred classes a year!

When you enter the drive of Laurel Run you will view our home and the school behind it, a labor of love that began 19 years ago when it was a tract of bare farm land. We are proud of what we have created as a family. When you see someone on a tractor mowing the many acres of grass, or plowing snow on the long drive or entering the back door of the school to "see what’s cooking", it’s my family. It is due to their support and willingness to give up some of their personal privacy to share Laurel Run with you, our guests and students. Our friendly and down-home atmosphere is unique and I think this has continued to make Laurel Run a relaxing place to be.
