Long Beach City College

A career in the culinary arts is a career with a future. Hospitality is the second-fastest-growing industry in the United States, and many opportunities for chefs and assistant chefs exist overseas, as well.

Work experience classes involve supervised training in highly reputed restaurants, hotels, country clubs, and hospitals.

The three-semester course exposes students to three different kitchens on the college's two campuses. Instruction in the Culinary Arts Program includes managerial skills, nutrition, sanitation, food preparation and production, baking and pastry, catering, menu planning, purchasing, food and labor costing, and forecasting. Culinary instructors lecture and demonstrate skills. Video tapes, field trips, and guest speakers are featured.

Students completing culinary coursework will receive a Vocational Certificate. For an Associate's Degree, students complete general education core classes and specific additional culinary courses.

Students may enroll in the program at the beginning of each semester. Classes are offered during the day and evening.
