Silwood School of Cookery

In 1750, the Silwood Farm was established in what was to become the most famous centre of education in the Cape - Rondebosch. The home of the internationally acclaimed Silwood School of Cookery, the world class University of Cape Town, the prestigious Diocesan College [Bishops] and many other top educational institutions.

In 1964, Lesley Faull, Commanderie des Cordons Bleus de France and Principal of the order in Southern Africa converted the 200 year old Silwood coach-house into South Africa's first Cordon Bleu Cookery School.

The school is surrounded by spacious and tranquil gardens where students can relax between lessons and pick their own herbs and vegetables.

Lesley Faull's daughter, Alicia Wilkinson, Commanderie des Cordons Bleus de France and Dame de la Chaine des Rotisseurs, is the present Principal of the school, assisted by her daughter Carianne.

Continuing her mothers work-producing chefs of a world class standard - boasting student achievements unmatched by any other school in the country.

Nationally Silwood Graduates can be found in Kitchens from the Mount Nelson to the Cape Grace, from Londolozi to the Cellars Hohenhort, Food selectors at Woolworth's, new cookery school owners, namely Susan Holtzhausen, Desere Price and Elsa Van der Nest - we trained them all.

Silwood does not offer a quick fix solution but a complete culinary education. Silwood students have won all the Cape MasterCard Gourmet Festival inter-cookery school competitions - proof that our good basic food training is the best.
