The University of Texas-Pan American (Coordinated Program in Dietetics)

The Coordinated Program in Dietetics is designed to develop in graduates the competencies of the generalist dietitian. The program combines both the academic and supervised practical training required by the American Dietetics Association. Based on the philosophy of the in-depth examination of dietetics in relationship to the needs of a bilingual-bicultural population, the program has three major goals:

* Prepare competent entry-level registered dietitians to serve the Rio Grande Valley and other areas of the country with large Hispanic populations
* Prepare program graduates for graduate level study and for employment in food and nutrition related fields
* Develop professionals who are committed to lifelong education in positive wellness oriented lifestyles.

Graduates are well qualified for entry-level positions in administrative, clinical, or community dietetics. The accelerated program combines the academic study of dietetics with the opportunity to apply knowledge in a professional setting. Qualified students complete their education in dietetics in a variety of settings during the junior and senior years. Upon successful completion, students earn a Bachelor of Science with a major in Dietetics. Upon graduation, they are eligible to become an active member of the American Dietetics Association and to take the examination to become a Registered Dietitian (R.D.) and a Licensed Dietitian (L.D.).
