Waynesville Technical Academy (Culinary Arts)




Through the combination of class work and lab practice in a state-of-the-art kitchen, you will learn how to plan menus, learn the basics of nutrition, food production, and the presentation of the food and service. In this class you will be able to take on a real life experience by preparing meals and catering school meeting and activities.

Students will be able to:

1. The students will be able to demonstrate the steps in preparing for a successful career.
2. The student will be able to identify nutritional guidelines within foods and recipes and prepare food in a safe and sanitary fashion.
3. The student will be able to identify and prepare fruits and vegetables and learn to adjust and understand standardized recipes
4. They will be able to identify and prepare sandwiches, breakfast foods, and dairy products.
5. The students will be able to calculate, explain, and demonstrate methods of controlling food service costs.
6. The students will be able to identify characteristics of the history of culinary arts and the hospitality industry.
7. The students will be able to identify and prepare potatoes, grains, desserts, baked goods, meat, poultry, seafood
8. The student will be able to identify, explain, and exhibit the skills that accompany purchasing inventory control.
9. The students will be able to identify and explain the organization and concepts of the lodging industry.
10. The students will be able to successfully communicate with superiors, employees, and customers.
